DTN COMMENTS: Hang on to your hats, the cattle market is a wild ride today.
As a light to moderate trade is taking place in all major feeding areas this
afternoon with Northern dressed deals marked at mostly $292, $8 higher than
last week's weighted averages. Southern live sales have a range of $175 to
$180, mostly $178 to $180, $7 to $9 higher than last week's weighted
averages.
Today's slaughter totaled 127,000 head, 2,000 more than last week, but 2,000
below a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply higher on both live (up 225
to 577) and feeder (up 247 to 420) contracts. Beef cutouts are expected to
close higher with moderate to good box movement.

All live sales are FOB and set for 1-9-day delivery. A weekly summary from
